Frequently Asked Questions
Existing road network data can be used. WRMS includes an import option. The road network is imported from text delimited files containing node, link and intersection data. If it's not possible to use the general import option, customized import is available.
Call & Report can be used separately without WinterPlan. If ordinary phones are used for reporting the map presentation of completed routes will not be available. The data is instead presented in text format, on screen and in reports.
WinterPlan supports planning for different actions with different action width. The presentation of the road network adjusts itself to the width of the action being planned.
WinterPlan distinguishes between transport (dead) time and active time. For transport time WinterPlan takes account of road speed limit, vehicle and equipment speed limits. For active parts the specified method speed is also considered.
Material consumption is calculated according to road width and action width for a specific amount.
The road network can be modified in WinterPlan. Nodes, links and intersections can be added, removed or changed. It is in fact possible to build up the road network from scratch, but this would of course be quite time-consuming.
Ordinary touch-tone phones including mobile phones can be used. Some PMR networks can also be used if they support external connection to a public network and support DTMF signaling. Mobile communication together with GPS can also be used for automatic tracking of the vehicle in the road network.
There are three different possibilities to use Call & Report remotely. Call & Report can be used in a multi-user configuration. This configuration is not recommended with lower speeds than 64 KBS. Standard remote access software can be used to extend an existing client. The third alternative is to use the Call & Report Intranet option. This option is recommended for low speed connections.
